• High School Contest in Irish Folklore

    The Circle of Irish Studies at the University of Granada brings St. Patrick’s Day to high schools with a contest on the theme of Irish folklore, with the help of Diana Rodriguez Bonet.

  • Upcoming Event — St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

    The Circle of Irish Studies of the University of Granada is currently organizing a series of events to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, in close collaboration with the Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization and the Aula Permanente de Formación Abierta. We look forward to welcoming you to these events:

    1. Irish Dance Workshop. When: Saturday, 9 March, 12.00-14.00. Where: The School of Arabic Studies, Salon de Actos de la Casa del Chapiz. Instructors: Edit Holm and Elisa Vicente Escobar.

    2. The iconic, historical building of The Royal Hospital (which hosts the main headquarters of the University) will go green from Friday, March 15 to Monday, March 18, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

    3.  Music and dance performance by members of the Céili Band at the University of Granada. When: Friday 15 March at 14.15. Where: Main Hall, Faculty of Arts. Participants: Luis García Pulido, Stephen Pearse Hughes, Edit Elisabet Holm y Elisa Vicente Escobar.

    4.  The Irish Language Workshop. When: Friday 15 March , at 18.00. Where: Pub
    Daly’s, Calle Santa Escolástica, 15. Stíofáin Ó’Dálaigh, in collaboration with Jorge Garate, organizes an exclusive workshop on the
    Irish language in an authentic Irish neighbourhood pub in the heart of Granada. Afterwards, they will host a traditional Irish music session.

    5.  Senior School at the University of Granada (Aula Permanente de Formación Abierta). Series of lectures “A Journey through Ireland through the Senses: Celebrating the Country on St. Patrick’s Day, Intergenerational Encounter”. When: Monday 18 March, at 9.30-11.30. Where: Espacio V Centenario. Aula 2. Lectures imparted by the members of the Circle of Irish Studies: Carmen Aguilera Carnerero, Luis García Pulido, Stephen Pearse Hughes, José Ruiz Más, and Pilar Villar-Argáiz.

  • Highlights from the 7th International Seminar in Irish Studies, UGR

    Following the success of the previous seminars, the Irish Week at the University of Granada was celebrated with various events, including academic presentations by scholars and researchers of Irish studies, poetry and prose readings, movie screening, Irish music and dance sessions and concerts.   • The Closing Ceremony of St. Patrick’s Day Celebration in Granada

    The Circle of Irish Studies of the University of Granada successfully closed an intensive week of academic events for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, which included an informative series of talks on Ireland, its culture and mythology, and musical and choreographic performances from the new Céili Band of the UGR. The event was held at the Palacio del Almirante and attended by Guadalupe Soriano Barabino, Director of the Secretariat of Linguistic Policy, David Martín López, Director of the Casa de Porras, and Pilar Villar Argáiz, Director of the Circle of Irish Studies of the University of Granada.


  • Upcoming Events for St. Patrick’s Day

    The Circle of Irish Studies at the University of Granada is organizing a series of events for St. Patrick’s Day in collaboration with the Embassy of Ireland and the City Hall:

    1. Iconic buildings in the city will be lit green to celebrate St.
      Patrick’s Day: The City Hall, The Royal Hospital (the main headquarters
      of the University).
    2. Seminars on Irish Dancing: “Celebrating San Patrick’s: Intensive
      Course on Irish dancing” led by Sara Romero Valero (Dancer and
      choreographer of the dance group Irish Treble). When: Tuesday 14 March
      and Thursday 16 March, from 18:00 a 21:00. Where: Palacio del Almirante.
      This course is free and an official certificate of attendance and
      participation from the University is provided.
    3. Senior School at the University of Granada (Aula Permanente de
      Formación Abierta). Series of lectures “A Journey through Ireland:
      Celebrating the Country on St. Patrick’s Day”. When: Monday 13 March.
      9.30-13.30. Where: Espacio V Centenario. Aula 3. Lectures given by the
      members of the Circle of Irish Studies: Carmen Aguilera Carnerero, Coral
      Calvo Maturana, Paula Camacho Roldán, Luis García Pulido, Stephen Pearse
      Hughes, Ángela Rivera Izquiero, Marjan Shokohi, and Pilar Villar-Argáiz.
    4. Official Celebration and musical-dancing performance by the new Céili
      Band at the University of Granada. “Celebration of St Patrick’s. Women,
      Music and Myths from the Emerald Isle”. When: Monday 20 March 19-21h.
